Tatty Devine have also embraced the flapper look. Tatty Devine make beautiful acrylic jewellery. The must have from this seasons collection is 'Pandora' I think she was modelled on Louise Brooks because of the trademark bob with fringe and of course Brooks starred in the film 'Pandora's Box' in 1929.
Available as a necklace or brooch in a variety of sizes this peice is a gem!
I love her long necklace :)

Don't forget to check out all the other bits on the website as well, if Pandora isn't to your taste I guarantee something else will be.

Art Deco Elegance

I love adorning each one of my coats and jackets and sometimes even a hat, with a brooch that says something about me. If you love Art Deco then you will love these.
Made from layered acrylic. There are a few different designs such as the 1930s sunhat or the 20s style cloche, which you can get in various colours.
Available from the Victoria & Albert Museum shops and online:

January Plans

Its my Birthday on the 24th of this month! I will be 21 which is probably the last of the decent birthdays :/

Anyway I plan to have a mexican themed party!

I got a lot of ideas from Gringo's Guide to a vintage fiesta!

Here is my costume so far:
I adjusted the skirt from an old queen of hearts costume I had made and sewed on the ribbon. Ive not done this very neatly because my sewing machine packed in, so I had to hand stitch it, I'm not very neat anyway but I'm terribly impatient as well.
I got this wonderful gypsy top off ebay for like £4, just right for my outfit.
All i need now is a big red flower for my hair :D
As for decor I have bought a mexican flag and i have just started making colourful paper chains.

I have yet to get a pinata, I might make one, I'm just a little short of time and I have a busy week ahead with uni assessments etc. We will see!

Here I am trying on my boyfriend's costume, I bought him that sombrero back from Spain in August.
I think the party will be a huge sucess, last year's Wizard of Oz theme was great! Theres nothing like Mexican food and music to warm you up in this cold weather!

More photos of my bedroom

Just a few more pictures of my bedroom now its been decorated.

I bought some artificial flowers to go in the white and blue jug on my window sill.
I want to recreate a disply similar to the ones in Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette.

Here is the ikea mirror I mentioned.
I love the lace detailing and the pink ribbon/chain that you hang it from.

My second bedspread, which is lovely because the hints of pink and pale yellow break up all the blue in my room.
Yes I know it needs ironing haha. I still think I need a headboard...I dont like bare walls!
You can also see the little tower of draws my mum bought for me next to my bed.

I have bought a chandelier but It hasnt been put up yet so I didnt take any photographs.

I think thats my room done now really! Hope you like it.
I'm really proud of it, and I love staying at home now because I have such a nice room.

Marlene Dietrich

I really am no good at reviewing things so I will stick to talking about clothes worn by Marlene Dietrich in Shanghai Express and Blonde Venus.

The outfits in both films are beautiful, I only wish I could see them in colour to truly appreciate them.

In Shanghai Express Dietrich plays Shanghai Lily. Lily wears a classy mix of feathers and furs, dressing almost completely in black. In the last scene she wears a striking pair of black leather gloves with white palms with a matching bag tres chic!
did you spot Anna May Wong? Playing another gutsy woman, I like her slick hair style, with the curls by her ears :)

Blonde Venus is the epitome of classic films of the era, where Dietrich plays a cabaret girl and mother, the dance costumes are marvelous. Especially the white tux and top hat she wears with sparkling trimmings.
However I think she looks best in ordinary clothes as a mother, she had such natural beauty.

I really did enjoy both films and thought Dietrich's performance in Shanhai Excpress was so good. I had trouble relating to her character in Blonde Venus, although I understood the things she did, I found it hard to believe because I don't think she was very convincing at times, perhaps thats just me though?

I might start sewing feathers onto all my clothes, labourious but worth it i think :P

Catch up time!

Happy New Year everyone!

It's been a while folks and its been a great holiday. Everything is winding down, except that is my work load! So this is a whistle stop tour through my christmas hols!

When I got back to Coventry, I quickly made plans to see all my old school friends in the week before christmas, so we could exchange cards and have a good old catch up. It was lovely to see them all as we are doing such different things now, some of us are at uni and some of my friends are still at home doing various jobs. So any chance I get to see them is great.

Christmas Eve
Every Christmas Eve we go to my cousin's house in the country to sing carols round the village christmas tree, its always great fun and really gets you in the festive spirit. For the first time that I can remember there was snow on the ground. It was beautiful, but after only a few minutes of singing my toes were numb in my wellies!

Christmas Day
Christmas day was more relaxed than usual, normally we have family over but this year it was just me, my parents and sister. We had a lovely lunch with turkey and cranberry sauce yummmmmmmmm! oh and my favourite: chestnut stuffing ;)

Boxing Day
Boxing Day was chaotic, in a good way. My grandma, aunt, uncle and 2 younger cousins came over. I really admire my parents for managing to organise and cook a sit down meal for such a large number of people. It was wonderful as usual. My Dad did his speciality Sweetcorn pudding from the 'Nigella Bites' recipe book.
If you havent ever tried it then you must look it up! Its very warming. (oh and its not a pudding like a dessert its for going with your main meal).

Thought I might give you a little list of some of my presents:

A camera lens for my digital slr

Soap and Glory set Glow Lotion and Scrub ActuallyPhotobucket
A Cath Kidston Shoe tidy
seam tights, because I always manage to poke holes in all my pairs oops!

I got Coraline on DVD

and a Wizard of Oz apron ;)

This is what I made for my sister for her Christmas present:
She hung it on the tree but now its been taken down she has it on her jewellery tree :)

How lucky we were to get more snow! I love love love the snow. It settled on all the trees and made it look like we were in the alps! Photobucket Me and my sister went out at night and built a snowman PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

I'm back at uni now, so in the following days I will tell you about my murder mystery new years eve and do a few classic film reviews. Until then stay warm!
